New Delhi, May, 22, 2018:-
Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind General Secretary Maulana Mahmood Madani in a letter to Vice Chancellor of Jawahar Lal Nehru University strongly condemned the decision to introduce 'Islamic Terrorism' as a subject under the newly approved 'Centre for National Security Studies' in the varsity. Copy of the letter has also been sent to Shri Prakash Javadekar Union Minister of HRD for intervention and consideration into the matter.
Maulana Mahmood Madani in the letter said that this ill conceived decision would hurt the feelings and sentiments of not only the Muslims but all those people who believe in respecting all the religions as the true mark of a civilized society.
Maulana Madani urged upon the concerned academic authority of JNU to reconsider the decision specifically linking Islam with terrorism and suspend this move for the wider interest. If JNU administration fails to do so Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind will be compelled to take legal recourse for penal action.
Maulana Madani further said that it is really shocking how an institution of such great repute and credentials for upholding secular and democratic values like that of JNU can stoop so low and sell out to the communal forces bent upon destroying the secular fabric of our country. We severely condemn this move considering it as insulting and blasphemous to Islam and its followers. It is most likely to poison and communalize the academic milieu in our country. Labeling any religion with such epithet as terrorism is the ultimate insult and as such it is most abominable and condemnable. It is incontrovertible fact that the religion of Islam is synonym of peace. It rejects all kinds of violence, breach of peace and bloodshed in letter and spirit. In the eyes of this peaceful religion, killing of one innocent person is equivalent to the entire humanity. It is because of this established fact, the global responsible communities even America, Britain and Russia who claim to lead the vanguard of fighters against terrorism, avoid using term ‘Islamic terrorism. They rightly believe that doing so is like validating terrorist’s propaganda that they are fighting religious war. Neither Obama nor former president George W. Bush used this term, describing it as counterproductive to efforts to combat terrorist groups. The President of Russia Vladimir Putin said, “I would prefer Islam not be mentioned in vain alongside terrorism”.
Maulana Madani further elaborated that despite this, it is very shocking and ridiculous that the top University like JNU is launching Course on terrorism clubbing with Islam. This move will hurt billions of Muslims all across the world who are peaceful, who are responsible and who played pivotal role and scarified their lives in fighting against terrorism. In India, alone our organization, Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind has been playing active role in the jihad against terrorism. We came up with fatwa against terrorism signed by 6000 Islamic scholars which was followed by more than 250 conferences and rallies consecutively all over the country. We raised voice universally that Islam is helpful in routing out terrorism not that it colludes in any way with its perpetrators.
However Maulana Madani clarified “At this stage, we are not against your proposal to establish “Center for National Security Studies”' and its related courses and would be ready to offer help and support for any genuine and sincere initiative against terrorism.
