All of a sudden, on 24th July heavy overnight rains pounded many parts of Gujarat especially the Northern part of Banas Kantha district. The number of those died in flood related incidents reached 213, out of which 186 deaths could be confirmed due to drowning while 27 others were caused by other reasons. The floods have affected millions of people damaging houses, roads, bridges, schools and agricultural fields across the state.
Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, the largest social and religious organisation was quick to respond and as per the instructions of Maulana Mahmood Madani (General Secretary, JUH) the local unit of Jamiat is providing food, medical, shelter and livelihood programs.
The current activities include
-Relief camps for those who lost their homes. In the camp, Jamiat is providing food and nutrition material.
- Medical camp for free medicine and check up for the sick persons.
- Cleaning of areas that have been submerged with mud for upto 4 feet post floods havoc.
Jamiat's team earned appreciation for cleaning temples and mosques both, where more than 120 volunteers relentlessly worked and cleaned the area, rising over religious denominations.
Maulana Mahmood Madani has appealed to the philanthropists to come forward for helping the needy people in the flood affected areas.
